I was born in 1953 and raised in a little logging town in Tasmania, Australia (before my parents moved us to the city of Hobart when I was sixteen, to give us the opportunity to find work). I think that I was blessed to grow up in that era. This was before television or computers, we, my three sisters and I, used to whole town to play and use our imagination in. We had so many adventures as children, which made us appreciate all the little and the big thing that life had to offer.
As a young girl I used to dream of traveling the world, not so much the big cities, but to mingle with the native people of Africa, The Americas and Asia, to learn of their culture and to experience their lives. I try to portray the strong bright colors in my paintings that I so love from these beautiful, naturally expressive cultures. I remember always sketching and coloring in comic books to pass the time away in the evenings, laying in front of the open fire in the kitchen. I always loved drawing eyes, then build a face around them. The eyes say so much, they can tell a story without saying a single word.
I am self taught and use acrylic on canvas. I decided to paint some form of art to hang on the bare walls of my home, not knowing how it would turn out, as I have never used paints before, my first piece (Maasai Man- Abstract) lead me to the next and so on. This was back in June 2006. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. Something inside me woke up and with the encouragement of a friend and fellow artist/photographer Ross Porteous, I am now building up a nice collection of pieces, and am confident with what I have produced, that I would like to share with the world of Art lovers and critics alike.
I do hope you enjoy and I thank you for visiting my site. Keep an eye out for more pieces waiting for their finishing touch in the next few months. I look forward to reading your comments. All pieces are available for sale as reproductions and some originals POA. My Email is vbranch_53@hotmail.com.
